card making :: climbing orchid

I think I owe my fondness of orchids to our mother: she has this incredible knack of being able to keep them alive in her house, and they continue to bloom year after year.  She must have at least a dozen at a time, and each time I see an orchid flower or plant I think of her.  Stampin’ Up! has this stamp set called “Climbing Orchid” and it has matching dies so that you can cut out the stamped images too. We had a couple of yucky rainy days recently so it was perfect for staying in to craft.  Here are a few card designs to illustrate ways you can use the stamps.

I love combining stamps from different sets to make cards, and for two of these examples I turned to my computer and printed out sentiments using a fun font.  You can keep the design super simple (as shown in the “with love from y’orchid” card) by stamping the images and cutting them out (either with the die cuts or by hand).  Or you can add a background with a large stamp (or patterned paper) like the burlap image.   Or if you want to make it extra complicated for yourself (ha!) you can use different colors of ink pads and add extra layers of die cut shapes for dimension (as shown in the “hello” card).  The possibilities are pretty much endless.

Hope you enjoyed this little burst of card making creativity.  One thing that I am looking forward to as our kid begins kindergarten (full day – woo hoo!) is more time to work on projects and to make things again.  Until the next post: be crafty!
